Rebranding Fails and Wins of 2010

January 7, 2011 by Traci McMurray

2011 is off to a swift start... but all these great Top 10 lists keep following us around. We had to share just one more from Co.Design. We'll just call it #11.

Co.Design's '10 of the Best (and Worst) Rebrandings of 2010' is a pretty fair list. Do I agree with their choices? Yes, although 2010 proved to offer a lot of great rebranding efforts and there might have been a few that were missing from the list. Call me crazy, but I really like Walmart's rebranding.

Perhaps more importantly though, we agree with their choices for the worst designs. The Gap Branding Fiasco of 2010 demonstrates that sometimes even poor branding can serve as awesomely bad publicity. The uproar of the masses centered around Gap for at least a solid week. But, then youy company is stuck with a crappy design, at least until you take it all back, revert and ask everyone to pretend like it never happened.

To my advertising friends I'd like to say... NEVER FORGET the mistakes made by Gap and choose better branding, like the great seeds produced by Pomegranate!
