These initiatives represent a major repositioning for the brand that made its name showing grainy videos of user generated footage for free.  From the look of things, YouTube is courting an audience with the palate for more sophisticated content, and the disposable income to match.

The ideas here are rock solid-- YouTube has created turnkey ecommerce for filmmakers.  The catch is that viewers are accustomed to web video being free.  But YouTube's programs can succeed if filmmakers offer up content that's premium enough for a price tag.  And the big win for YouTube comes when high quality content can command bigger ad revenues.  This is definitely one to keep an eye on.
